Archeo-Trekking

Archeo-Trekking routes to find in Finalese area are a lot. You can chose from the most panoramic overlooking the sea to the archeologic one - like the old Julia Augusta -the path along the Roman bridges- in Val Ponci. The area of Finale Ligure preserves vestiges of different ages; beginning from prehistory and passing through the centuries lovers can admire the rests of the Roman, Byzantine, Medieval and Napoleonic period. Starting from the centre of Varigotti you can walk up to the near Crena spit, reach a Saracen Tower perfectly conserved and from there dominate the coast. Behind the village the ruins of a Byzantine fortification are still visible, at a short distance walking on along the “Sentiero del Pellegrino”

(pilgrim path) you can reach the Romanic Church of Saint Lorenzo and from there enjoy a breathtaking sight over the Saracen Bay. Among the various archeologic rests around Varigotti you cannot lose a visit to the fortifications dating back to Carretto Marquisate, whose Finale Ligure was the capital. They dominate Finalborgo - the old medieval centre recently included among the most beautiful hamlets of Italy “i Borghi più belli d’Italia” - and they can be reached from Varigotti along the promenade to Finale and Finalborgo or for the most adventurous through the thick paths net that wanders as far as Finalborgo.
